The Infant Cognition Lab (ICL) is now recruiting young children too! The lab is located in the Department of Psychology at Ripon College. The lab has been in operation under the direction of Dr. Kristine Kovack-Lesh, associate professor of psychology, since 2008. Our research focuses on mental developmental stages in young infants, but now is being expanded to include young children. Students work in the lab year-round, where they gain valuable hands-on-training in the field of psychology and learn how to effectively communicate a research question to an outside community member. The lab relies on a steady stream of volunteers from the community to help with our research. We encourage you to view our current studies and indicate your interest using the sign-up form.
Scene Memory Study:
Previous Research has revealed that adults have an unlimited capacity to remember scenes (e.g., Standing, Conezio, & Haber, 1970). Our goal in the Scene Memory study is to test this phenomenon in children between the ages of 6 and 15 months. Currently no literature exists testing this age group.
2020欧冠杯预选赛 During the study, your infant will be seated on your lap while they view images of various scenes. The session will be recorded in order to examine and analyze at a later time.
We would like to to be able to test memory over a one week span so if you do volunteer to participate, we ask that you are available for two appointments during a period of one week. Each appointment will last approximately 20-30 minutes.
Learning language is critical for your infant in discovering the world around them. Infants store much of their memory in categories. It is this reason that infants are able to recognize different dogs as being similar (and different from cats) which leads them to eventually learn the word dog.
In the Categorization study, we are looking for 3.5 to 7.5 month-olds. During the appointment your infant will be seated on your lap while images of categories are displayed on a screen. We will record the session to analyze at a latter time.

Attention and Memory in Young Children Study:
2020欧冠杯预选赛 There are many different tasks that have been used in the past to study the attentional abilities of both babies and adults. Our goal in this study is to determine whether these adapted tasks measure the same capabilities in children 2.5 to 10 years old. During this study, children will participate in up to 4 different types of attentional tasks: Bubble-Popping Task, Visual Search Task, IOWA Task, and the Flanker Task. This project is in collaboration with UW-Madison’s SPACE Lab and ACTNext by ACT under the direction of Dr. Vanessa Simmering.
2020欧冠杯预选赛In order to make sure that children have enough time to feel comfortable in the lab and have breaks in between the tasks, we will schedule appointments for an hour and a half, but the appointment will most likely last less than an hour.
